STRUCK TWICE WITH MAKER'S MARK AH ONLY, CIRCA 1670
Cylindrical and on a spreading foot, the foot applied with scrolling foliage panels, the body applied with a silver sleeve pierced and chased with figures within foliage scrolls, with parcel-gilt female bust handle, the hinged cover with applied silver putti among foliage and a central quatrefoil, with scroll thumbpiece, marked on foot, struck with later French control marks

Sale room notice
The maker's mark appears to be that of August Hosse, Halle, circa 1700. Hosse's mark appears on a number of tankards of similar form and with similar decoration.
