A PAIR OF VICTORIAN SILVER MEAT-DISHES
MARK OF ROBERT GARRARD, LONDON, 1839
Each shaped oval and with a gadrooned rim, engraved with a coat-of-arms, marked on the reverse and stamped 'GARRARDS, PANTON STREET, LONDON'
12½ in. (32 cm.) long
54 oz. (1,690 gr.)
The arms are those of Loveden with Darker in pretence, for Edward Loveden and his second wife Elizabeth, daughter and sole heiress of John Darker of Gayton Park, Northamptonshire, whom he married in 1785. Mr Loveden married as his third wife Anne, daughter of Thomas Linthall, in 1794, therefore these dishes were no doubt later additions to an exisiting service, engraved to match. (2)
