Oval, each side finely engraved with a Baroque cartouche containing draughtsman's tools, surmounted by putti and surrounded by scrolling foliage and strapwork, the hinged cover engraved with grotesque masks on a brickwork ground with a coat-of-arms, containing: a knife, a fork a spoon, scissors, a ruler, a pair of dividers, tweezers, a pencil and ivory tablets, marked with later French import marks
