TWO IMPERIAL EDICTS
XIANFENG, DATED 1852 AND 1861 RESPECTIVELY, AND OF THE PERIOD

Each written on silk brocade woven with ruyi-cloud pattern-ground mounted as a handscroll, the text arranged in standard form reading from left to right in Manchu and repeated from right to left in Chinese characters, the Chinese text opening with a four-character title in a vertical line, Fengtian Gaomin, 'By the Command of Heaven', flanked by a pair of dragons, the first with a long text and ending with the date 2nd year of Xianfeng, corresponding to 1852, stamped with a seal impression beside its Manchu transliteration within a square, continuing with further Manchu text, the other dated to 11th year of Xianfeng, 1861
