A MAGNIFICENT EARLY MING UNDERGLAZE COPPER-RED VASE, YUHUCHUNPING
HONGWU PERIOD (1368-1398)
The elegantly potted pear-shaped body confidently painted in tones ranging from a rich crushed raspberry to slightly darker mushroom-pink with a peony meander growing four blooms, two full faced alternating with two in profile, borne on undulating leafy stems framing each full bloom and terminating with smaller buds, all beneath pendent trefoils, the waisted neck decorated with a classic scroll border between another of overlapping waves and stiff plantain below the rim, each divided by double-line bands, the base with a further border of lotus petal lappets containing ruyi-head pendants, the foot and inner rim encircled by classic scroll bands
