Lot Essay

The present jardiniere belongs to a group of ceramics decorated with a glaze that is in imitation of Song dynasty Jun wares in both glaze and shapes. Compare with a Jun-type narcissus bowl in the Baur Collection, illustrated by J. Ayers, Chinese Ceramics in the Baur Collection, vol. 2, Geneva, 2000, A355, p. 155, no. 262; where it is illustrated together with a matching imitation Junyao flower pot.
