QIANLONG SIX-CHARACTER SEALMARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)

Sturdily potted with the deep rounded sides rising to a slightly inturned rim, decorated with a pair of five-clawed dragons striding amidst ruyi clouds above crested waves
8 3/8 in. (21.2 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

A Qianlong jardiniere of this type was included in the Exhibition of Qing Mark and Period Blue and White, Messrs Marchant and Son, 1984, illustrated in the Catalogue, no. 27; while several others have been sold at auction, including one from the Jarras Collection of Fine Ming and Qing Porcelain, sold in these Rooms, 8 October 1990, lot 345; and another, 30 October 2001, lot 821.
