QIANLONG SIX-CHARACTER SEALMARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)

The globular body painted to simulate 'heaping and piling' with a composite floral scroll above a band of lotus panels and classic scroll at the foot, with a trefoil cloud collar below another composite floral scroll around the shoulder, the tall neck with key-fret and upright plantain leaves, and breaking waves at the flaring mouth

Lot Essay

Four vases of this design are illustrated by R. Krahl, Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Museum, Istandbul, vol. III, London, 1986, where they have been metal mounted to suit Ottoman use. Other examples include one illustrated in Qingdai Ciqi Shangjian, Hong Kong, 1994, pl. 165; one from the Shanghai Museum, illustrated in Zhongguo Taoci Quanji, part 2, vol. 15, Shanghai, 2000, pl. 2; one from the Toguri Collection, sold at Sotheby's London, 9 June 2004, lot 5; and several sold in these Rooms, including 29 October 1995, lot 787, and 29 September 1992, lot 509.
