The acanthus leaf decoration was adopted from Occidental design, and combined with ruyi, suggests that the table may have been made for the Western Palaces such as the Yuanmingyuan, the Garden of Perfect Brightness. Compare with the larger table with opulent Rococo theme, sold in these Rooms, The Imperial Sale, 26 April 2004, lot 984.
