Carved using the contrasting semi-translucent reddish-orange and opaque creamy white stone to depict Shoulao seated by a recumbent deer beside a fruiting peach and lingzhi spray; a miniature amber vase, carved in low relief with archaistic taotie bands; and an amber group of two Buddhist lions chasing a brocade ball

The miniature proportions and intricate carving of the amber vase indicate that it was probably made for use in a 'treasure' box.
