The aggrandisement of Bantry House, Co. Cork took place under the stewardship of the 2nd Earl. His father, the 1st Earl (d. 1851), in about 1816 had more or less moved into a nearby cottage orné at Glengariff and after the death of his wife in 1835 lived there permanently. The alterations to the house took place in in the 1840s, and it is therefore possible that this table was acquired by either the 1st or 2nd Earl.
