A NORTH EUROPEAN OAK AND UPHOLSTERED ARMCHAIR
LATE 17TH CENTURY
With a rectangular padded back, scrolled foliate and rosette carved arms on bobbin turned supports, with turned and square sections legs, joined by bobbin stretchers and with a foliate carved front stretcher, the turned feet later, the original cut velvet upholstery distressed
Provenance
Almost certainly supplied to Ernst-August, Elector of Hanover, Duke of Brunswick and Luneburg (1629-98).
Thence by descent to his son George, Elector of Hanover and King of England (d.1727).
Thence by descent with the Electors of Hanover at either Schloss Herrenhausen, Marienburg, Blankenburg od Braunschweig until sold at Sotheby's House sale, Schloss Marienburg, 5-15 October, 2005, lot 1453.
