Lot Essay

Dod Procter and her husband Ernest Procter spent most of their lives in the artists' colony in Newlyn, Cornwall and her work is most associated with pictures of the people and countryside of the area. She was a prolific exhibitor at the Royal Academy, the present work being exhibited in 1924. In 1927 the most acclaimed picture at the Royal Academy was Procter's Morning, a painting now in the collection of the Tate Gallery.
