Tasting note: Production 9607 bottles. First noted at the big Lebégue annual tasting in the monumental arches beneath Lond Bridge Station in 1964; amazingly rich and concentrated. Still totally unready in 1979 but 15 years later wonderfully evolved: medium-deep; soft, velvety, fleshy, harmonious bouquet with mulberry-hint of fruit; full, rich, mouthfilling. Dry finish. Most recently, bottle no.0929: fairly deep, richly coloured; sweet, harmonious nose, rich fruit, almost jammy - strawberry, raspberry - great depth, faultless; lovely flavour, still with excellent tannin and acidity, typical Romanée-Conti persistence of flavour. One of my highest marks of the entire range. At Wilfred Jaeger's Romanée-Conti luncheon, March 2002 ***** perfect now, yet years of life ahead M.B.
