Lot Essay

John Gere pointed out that this is a study of one of the ceiling decorations in the guardroom of the Palazzo Farnese at Caprarola, I. Faldi in Il Palazzo Farnese di Caprarola, Turin, 1981, p. 266, illustrated. Two studies for other compartments are in the Uffizi (Inv. 780S) and in a private collection, France.
