THE DISPOSAL OF THE NOBEL PRIZE MONEY: [Fritz] Haber has been kind enough to make the practical arrangements for the deposit of part of the Nobel prize money [which was settled on Mileva and the children in accordance with their 1919 divorce settlement]: 'Hopefully peace and contentment will follow'. Hans Albert is to look after the purchase of a house. Einstein is delighted to hear that his son has come top in his exams ('Was war ich da für ein zweifelhafter Kunde dagegen!) adding that 'Haber says that you should learn to speak English fluently, dear Albert; that way you would have good opportunities in America; he has valuable connections there'. He looks forward to playing music with Eduard, and hopes to see one or other of them in Kiel.

Einstein's divorce settlement with Mileva in 1919 took the singular step of settling on her and the children the proceeds of the Nobel prize, even though he was not awarded the prize until 1922.
