EINSTEIN, Albert (1879-1955). Autograph letter signed ('Papa') to his son, Hans Albert, n.p., 23 February 1927, one page, 4to.

EINSTEIN REFUSES TO SEE HIS SON'S FUTURE WIFE. The idea that Hans Albert should come to see him with his fiancée [Frieda Knecht] is painful: 'She won't let you go now, and will drag you from one calamity to another ... The origin of it all is that she fastened on to you first, and now you see in her the incarnation of all womanhood ... Never send or bring Miss Knecht to me, because I simply couldn't bear it, as things stand. But when you some day feel the need to separate from her, do not be too proud, but trust me to help you. For the day will come'. Einstein also urges his son to consider leaving Dortmund for Berlin, offering to find him a job.
