Lot Essay

The attribution to Domenico has been suggested by George Knox who in a letter of October 1995 states 'In these drawings the design is firmly 'grounded': it does not float like an arabesque as it does in the most typical drawings of Giambattista'. The present sheet can been compared with The View with a Horse and Carriage on a Mountain Road, A. Seilern, Recent acquisitions at 56 Princes Gate, 1971, vol VI, no. 401, pl. XI.
An attribution to Alessio de Marchis has also been suggested.
