Lot Essay

The viewpoint depicted is just north of the stepping stones (see lot 270) and south of the island (see lot 273) on the river Llugwy below Capel Curig, North Wales. Its size and technique suggests that Leader painted this on the spot, en plein air, possibly in preparation for a larger composition. The farmhouse on the hill, Cae Gwegi, still stands. The peak of Moel Siabod defines the horizon.

We are grateful for Ruth Wood for her help in preparing this catalogue entry.
