Oriental Figures seated at a Table

Alastair Laing kindly confirmed the attribution in a letter dated 19 November 1997, pointing out that this drawing is part of a group of sheets 'apparently subjectless, drawings of men vaguely biblical/oriental appearance'. Alastair Laing dates the group to circa 1760 by comparison with a sheet in Darmstadt dated 1759. Two other drawings from that series are at the Louvre (Inv. 24772) and in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (PI 48). The later drawing is of the same technique as the present one.
