Lot Essay

Theobald Michau studied with the landscape painter Lucas Aschellincx in Brussels. He was made Master of the Guild in Brussels in 1698, and was elected a member of the Guild of Antwerp in 1710. The present works can be compared to a Wooded Landscape with Peasants and Carts, formerly in the collection of the Marquis of Crewe, sold at Christie's, London, Dec. 11, 1987, lot 79.
