According to archival records, Guidobono studied the paintings of Correggio during a stay in Parma and derived from him a pictorial softness and a gentle sfumato characteristic of the school of Parma at the start of the seventeenth century. Guidobono translated it into his own sensual style, as apparent in the present work.
