COMPARATIVE LITERATURE:
Gh. Derveaux-Van Ussel, Exposition de sculptures anglaises et malinoises d'Albtre, (exh. cat.), Muses royaux d'Art et d'Histoire, Brussels, 1967, p. 56, no. M/47, pl. 31
Typical of many of the alabaster carvers in Malines, Belgium, Nicolas Daems who monogrammed this specimen to either side of his trademark, was involved in the serial production of these small devotional panels. This composition is identical to one in a set of three scenes from Genesis sold at Sotheby's New York (12 January 1996, lot 1012) from which the initials had worn off. They may therefore be attributed to Daems as well.
