SCHWEITZER, Albert. FOUR SCHWEITZER LETTERS AND DOCUMENTS CONCERNING HIS WORK IN LAMBARENE. Autograph letter signed ("Albert Schweitzer") to M. Schoepflin, Gunsbach, Alsace, 28 January 1928. 7½ pages, 4to, with Schweitzer's "Permanent Address" stamp on top right corner of first page. In French. Schweitzer details the legal and technical problems that have arisen as a result of Mr. Durmoy's survey of the land grant made to Schweitzer by the French government. The tracts near Lambarene were to become the site of the Schweitzer Hospital community. He notes geometric measurements throughout the letter in order to explain the problems. -- SCHWEITZER. Autograph draft certificate signed ("Albert Schweitzer"), n.p. 26 March 1955. 1 page, 4to. In French. Written on the back of an envelope, Schweitzer certifies that he has treated the patient Mlle. Toudi Bochsler from December 1950 to May 1952, and that she has been cured of a spot that was thought to be leprosy. -- SCHWEITZER. Two autograph letters signed ("Albert Schweitzer") to Frauleine van Zande, Lambarene, 28 November 1930 and 30 June 1931. Together 2 pages, oblong (5¼ x 8 1/8 in.), with Schweitzer's ink stamp in top right corner. In German. Schweitzer thanks van Zande for her monetary contribution to the hospital. He mentions his tremendous workload and expresses the hope that she might come to Lambarene to join him in his great work. Together four items. (4)
