JEFFERSON'S MARINE CORPS APPOINTMENTS ARE VERY RARE, for the simple reason that only a scant handful were issued during his administration. In fact, in the year 1807, the entire Corps consisted of only 392 enlisted men and a scant 11 officers, one of them being 1st Lieutenant Cox. No Jefferson Marine Corps commissions have been offered at auction since at least 1975, according to ABPC.
