Provenance
This lot is accompanied by a photocopy of a note, written by Marguerite Davis in Dec. 1941, stating in part, "These Indian moccasins ... belonged to my grandfather -- Joseph Abbott of Keene, N. H. -- and were given him by Chief Ouray of the Ute Indians of Colorado, in token of their friendship and gratitude to him as U. S. Agent of the then "Sanitary Commission" -- under President Lincoln."
