SCLATER, Philip Lutley (1829-1913) & William Henry HUDSON (1841-1922). Argentine Ornithology. A descriptive catalogue of the birds of the Argentine Republic. London: R.H. Porter, 1888-89. 2 volumes, 8° (246 x 153mm). Wood-engraved illustration on titles, 20 hand-coloured lithographed plates by John Gerrard Keulemans, finished with gum arabic (outer margin of 3 plates lightly cropped, affecting plate no of 2 plates, few spots and marks throughout, mainly marginal, occasional light offsetting from plates). Modern crimson morocco gilt, spine title and decorated in gilt with designs of exotic birds, original front wrappers laid down and bound in at the end (cropped), top edges gilt. Provenance: C.G. Hughes (contemporary, slightly cropped, signature on title of vol. II).
