GRILLPARZER, Franz (1792-1872). Autograph verse signed ('F. Grillparzer'), Vienna, 15 March 1860, 4 lines on one leaf, oblong 4to. An elegant album-verse on the meaning of thought: it is not what the poet thinks whilst writing the poem, but everything he has ever thought:
'Das Denken ist nicht der Empfindung geschenkt;
Es wirkt als leitende Macht,
Nicht was der Dichter beim Dichten denkt,
Nein, was er von jeher gedacht'.
