This painting appears to be a copy after T.A. Prior's engraving Heidelberg from the Opposite Bank of the Neckar which was supposedly based on a preparatory drawing by Turner executed circa 1841 (see A. Lyles and D. Perkins, Color into Line, Turner and the Art of Engraving, Tate Gallery, London, 1989, p. 81, no. 88).
