Lot Essay

The stamp of Henry Samuel has been found on a handful of pieces dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. It would appear that he was a retailer on London's Oxford Street. A George II mahogany library table bearing his stamp was sold Christie's, London, 13 January 1977, lot 105 and which is illustrated in C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture, 1700-1840, London, 1996, p. 395, fig. 780.
