The John Reeve Grand Prix and Motor Racing Photographic Archive;
comprising a large quantity of original photographs and related negatives, including some early black and white monotone studies but predominantly colour work, spanning his career from the 1960s to the 1990s. The negatives are principally contained in two loose-leaf files, annotated and dated for the most part; together with a hand-manuscripted index-book relating principally to commercial hire, reprinting and reproductive usage.
Some colour prints relating to each group of negatives from certain events are contained in the original processing wallets, most of which are hand-annotated and dated. Some negatives have become separated from their groups due to being sent out for reproduction usage.
His coverage extended to many track-sessions and testing venues where close-up access was provided to him in a more friendly atmosphere than some race events. His personality connections, especially with Lotus and other British-based teams, gave him the opportunity to strengthen personal relationships with the drivers such as Ayrton Senna and others, who subsequently obliged him with candid and casual poses for his talented photographic skills in such 'behind-the-scenes' situations.
In latter years he concentrated upon using colour transparencies for better reproductive quality. There is a large quantity of these, which are again annotated and dated and comprise probably half this group lot. He continued to use both colour-negative film and transparency-film in separate cameras at most events. Reproductive Copyright is transferred to the buyer of this lot.
