Gumppenberg Tarot, circa 1812, Milan, Ferdinando Gumppenberg, 78 of 78 cards, woodblock printed and stencil colored, king of bastoni contains tax stamp of the Kingdom of Italy under French rule, 25 centesimi (valid 1807-1815). Major Arcana and courts are full-length figures, Italian card titles, Roman numerals, Spanish suits, two indices, square corners, ace of danari reads, "Regia Fabbrica di Milano. Fabbricatore Gumppenberg." This version of Gumppenberg tarot appears to be a cheaper edition of its counterpart by using woodblock printing instead of copper engraving, eliminating backgrounds on some of the cards, and leaving the cards unpolished. Backs are overall pattern of dots, dashes and suns in red. Size 4 1/8 in. (10.3 cm.) high, 2 in. (5.cm.) wide. In generally fine condition. Kaplan II, var.
