Military Tarock of Emperor Franz Josef, Deck 4, circa 1885, Vienna, Josef Glanz, 54 of 54 cards, lithography with stencil-colored suit signs, ace of hearts contains Austrian monarchic tax stamp, 30 kreuzer (valid 1882-1899) and the name GLANZ JOSEF in WIEN. Designed by J. Surch as evidenced by initials "IS"and year "1849" on king of diamonds. Trumps are full-length figures, double-ended Roman numerals, and theatrical or prominent figures in colorful costume, French suits, no indices, square corners. This deck differs from Deck 3 of Military Tarock of Emperor Franz Josef by the designation on the jack of hearts of a new address, "Kohlmarket No. 1 in Wien" instead of "Kohlmarket No. 20 Wien" and a plaid tarotee back design. Size 2 1/8 in. (5.3 cm.) high, 4 1/8 in. (10.3 cm.) wide. XV has minor corner loss, otherwise cards are in generally fine condition. Kaplan II, 455.
