Gallant Highlanders Deck, circa 1845, New York, John J. Levy, 52 of 52 cards. John J. Levy was the nephew of Lewis I. Cohen, the founder of one of the early American card making families. John J. left his uncle's employee and took a partner named Huestis. A striking ace of spades printed in blue, red, yellow and black bears the name, John J. Levy. The address in red on the shell at the bottom of the cards reads, "177 & 179 Grand St. N.Y." Full-length courts, no indices, square corners. Backs are green and orange plaid. Home-made box with wrapper pasted on front that reads, GALLANT HIGHLANDERS, HUESTIS & LEVY, N.Y. In generally fine condition. Dawson, 49, NY15.
