Harlequin Tobacco Insert Transformation Deck, Series 2, 1889, Kinney Tobacco Co., 52 of 52 cards plus joker. The first series of Kinney insert cards was an exact copy of the Tiffany Harlequin pack, except that many of the designs were reversed. This pack was the second in the series and contained completely new images. It is also the first American transformation pack to include the court cards in transforming the pip designs. One card was packaged inside a pack of cigarettes. To collect the complete deck, smokers had to purchase many packs of cigarettes. Any smoker who was able to collect all 53 insert cards could send away for the full size deck. The ace of spades advertises Kinney Bros., and the joker features two women hugging a Chinese gentleman. The card backs provide a complete listing of the cards available. Size 2 3/4 in. (7 cm.) high, 1 = in. (3.9 cm.) wide.
