Painted wood game box, France, circa 1820.

6.25 x 8 x 2.25 in. (160 x 205 x 60 mm). The top lid is painted with an idyllic scene of two men walking in the countryside. The interior is divided into four compartments, each with a removable wooden box containing white, red, yellow, and green ivory game counters. The hinged lids of each box are all painted with similar scenes of the two men in the countryside with the ruins of a stone building in the background.
