Blue enamel Boston Whist box, England (?), circa 1890.
4.5 x 8.25 x 2.25 in. (115 x 210 x 60 mm). Blue enamel over wood, lid has filigreed corners and center cartouche with pull ring, metal edges, and filigreed lock plate (lacks key, box slightly damaged above key hole, a few minor scratches). The interior includes 4 removabale trays housing red, yellow, purple, and green game counters in a variety of shapes and a deck of 32 cards of French origin dating from about 1890 (cards appear to be two different sizes, which may indicate that the deck is made up of two different packs). Hinged to the inside lid is a a score tablet for Boston Whist, which is removed when the game is played.
