35 of 35 illustrated portrait cards, 91 of 96 text cards (5 missing text cards supplied in photocopy), hand-colored woodcuts and letterpress. Portrait cards display monarchs from William I (reigned 1066 to 1087) to William IV (reigned 1830-1837), text cards cite events and achievements during their reigns, the last being the Reform Bill of 1832. The game is played by attributing the facts on text cards to the respective monarchs. Text card reads, "Published by N. CARPENTER, London, of whom may be had a variety of Entertaining and Instructive Games, Puzzles, Books, Transparent Slates, & c, Printed by SEDDING AND TURTLE, 30, Arundel Street, Strand. Includes 35 page booklet that reads on title page, "Historical Amusement, A NEW AND ENTERTAINING GAME on the HISTORY OF ENGLAND, Published by N. Carpenter, 60, Spencer Street, London," the booklet provides 96 questions and corresponding answers, the booklet has a handwritten owners name and date, "Geo. H. Lancaster, January 1835." Also includes 12 round cardboard counters. Backs plain. Size of portrait cards, 2 1/4 in. (5.8 cm.) high, 1 3/8 in. (3 1/2cm.) wide, text cards 11/16 in. (1.6 cm.) high, 2 5/8 in. (6.6 cm.) wide. Cards slightly worn, booklet damaged at back and spine but no loss to text.
