Ivory figures of Buddha appear to be very rare ; a famous example from the Ming dynasty, slightly larger, from the E.G. Spencer-Churchill collection, was included in the International Exhibition of Chinese Art, Royal Academy of Arts, London 1935-1936, pl.2925 and is also published in Chinese Ivories from the Shang to the Qing, The Oriental Ceramic Society and the British Museum, London 1984, pl.120
