This album of rubbings was ordered the 11th day, 4th month of the 30st year of Qianlong's reign (1766) with the permission of the Emperor by Fang Guancheng, governor of Beijing and tutor of the crown prince.
It was presented to the Emperor on the 16th day, 11th month of the 30st year of his reign.
It is composed by 13 of the 16 original rubbings made from stone carvings. The Bibliothèque Nationale of Paris has a complete painted version of this album, from the Collection of the Minister Bertin. It could well be the original paintings from which the stone carvings were made.
The present album has been remounted in Europe as the original order is not respected. It is known as the 'Marcilly Album'.
