Lot Essay

White jade Imperial teapots are very rare and the present one, wonderfully carved, with this rare hexagonal shape and superb polish, appears to be a very unusual example of the jade production from the Qianlong reign. Compare the current teapot with some related examples from the Qianlong period, two illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of The Palace Museum - Jadeware (III), Hong Kong 1995, pp.257-258, pl. 212 and 213 ; two others illustrated in A Romance with Jade - From the De An Tang collection, September 2004, pp.158-159, pl.96 and 97 ; see also the white jade teapot sold in our Hong Kong Rooms, 29 and 30 October 2001, lot 704
Coming from the same private collection, the present lot can be associated with the white jade cup and cup-stand also offered in this sale under lot number 108
