Originating from a Dutch Delft design inspired by the God Bacchus. The only two other blue and white examples known in Europe are that of the British Museum illustrated in Soame Jenyn's book on Japanese porcelain, pl.13A ; and the one sold in our London Rooms, 9 March 1987, lot 317.
Coloured examples are to be seen in the Rikjsmuseum and the Idemitsu Museum in Tokyo and in the Kurita Collection (illustrated in his book on Imari, no. 211, p. 369)
