A GEORGE II SILVER KETTLE ON STAND,
MARK OF THOMAS WHIPHAM (I), LONDON, 1753,
Of inverted pear shape with profuse rococo chasing of flowers & scrolls around two cartouches, one crested, the other with armorial, the tripod stand on shell feet, with fixed central spirit lamp, decorated with pierced aprons of flowers, the three bifurcated scroll supports with leaf & mask decoration, the swing handle with raffia-bound grip & flowering shrub finial, leaf-capped scalloped spout, marked fully on lamp, the marks on base of kettle now indistinct, the cover apparently unmarked, 14 in. high (35.5 cm.), 66 oz.
