RUSSIAN, 19TH CENTURY
The Archangel with large white wings, standing in three-quarters position, holding an orb with Christ's initials and a trident thus indicating his role as a herald and servitor of Divine Almightiness (Dan 8:16, Lk 1:26). His face is depicted with delicacy and the white ribbon on his head stands out among his neat curls. The folds of his garments are emphasised with dense chrysography and the pearl- and garnet-decorated golden hems of his garments give him an opulent appearance.
