A PENDANT DOUBLE-SIDED ICON
RUSSIAN, CIRCA 1850
One side shows the Crucified Christ, flanked by his Mother with Mary Magdalene at the left and John the Evangelist with another disciple at the right. The reverse depicts the decollation of the Baptist. The paintings are executed in the traditional style of the early 19th century with gold and tempera on panel. The silver frame is enamelled, glazed and has a short suspensory chain (apparently unmarked).
