Lot Essay

The precise and delicate quality of the craftsmanship, use of lunette inlay, ivory escutcheon, and original blue-green paper lining the interior of this box, are features associated with the Seymour workshop. A tea box with a similar design and inlaid edge is illustrated in Vernon Stoneman, John and Thomas Seymour (Boston, 1959), p.249.
