Lot Essay

Philip Pott, born 1732 in Groszbülten near Hannover became master organ and harpsichord maker in the Egelantierstraat tusschen de laatste Dwarsstraat en Baangragt Amsterdam, circa 1777.
Between 1776 and 1780 some advertisements are known in which he offers his organ-cabinets. In 1779 and 1780 a 'very pretty' Comptoir bureau-orgel (organ-cabinet) 'made of fine walnut, with four sections and inlaid with tortoiseshell according to the Roman Order' is mentioned, this Comptoir bureau-organ can be identified as the organ-cabinet by Pott in this sale.
