Frosted gilt movement jewelled to the centre with bimetallic balance, precision regulator and poised handle bar pallets, white enamel dial with black Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds and blued steel spade hands, in polished hinged case with polychrome enamel portrait of Draga Masin in full royal regalia, case, dial and movement signed

Lot Essay

Draga Masin (1867-1903) was lady in waiting to Queen Nathalie of Serbia, mother of King Alexander of Serbia. Already a widow Draga married Alexander in 1900; this was an unpopular marriage and combined with Alexander's political measures contributed to general unrest. In 1903 a conspiracy by army officers to replace the King led to the murder of Alexander and Draga in the royal palace
