Of ovoid form on a short foot, applied with a small protruding spout to the side of the six-lobed body, the ropetwist handle looped over the aperture ending in three unravelled floral terminals, covered with a clear glaze of slightly greenish-grey tone

Lot Essay

Compare the similar ewer excavated in 1980 from the Liao tombs of Haoqianyingzi and illustrated in Neimenggu Lishi Wenwu, Inner Mongolia Museum, 1987, pl. 74. A similar ewer was sold in these Rooms, 9 December 1985, lot 93; and another example sold in Christies New York, 2 June 1994, lot 266.
