Lot Essay

Nicholas Turner has confirmed the attribution to Guercino on studying the drawing in the original. He suggests that the drawing may be connected to Guercino's painting of La Madonna del Rosario con i Santi Domenico e Caterina da Siena, painted in 1637 for the Church of San Domenico, Turin, and still in situ (D.M. Stone, Guercino, catalogo completo dei dipinti, Florence, 1991, no. 149).
